On the other hand, I would be very interested in a nDAC 2. But I would not buy one, independently of its price. I have listened to the ND555 and it sounds very, very good. And preferences and priorities are necessarily subjective. One can easily find arguments in favour and against the new DACs and, of course, the old nDAC. Moreover, they also can act as UPnP servers (although with very limited capabilities, much like the Core) of contents stored on attached USB drives. The new DACs come with S/PDIF and Ethernet inputs. But with 8 S/PDIF inputs, the nDAC is a very interesting proposition for processing the output of different devices in a seamless fashion. The old Naim DAC had only S/PDIF and USB inputs, the latter without support for audio class 2 and thus with very limited usability. Simon's response: if the state of the art in DAC's has progressed substantially since I bought mine in 2010, does it makes sense to replace the DAC with a DAC/streamer? I suppose I could sell my Naim DAC, although maybe I wouldn't get much for it(?).Ī streamer is a DAC with ethernet inputs. Just a suggestion though, nothing in the article is inaccurate. Thanks for all the feedback! Very helpful. The article doesn't really explain why you might want to use client mode (other than use as a WiFi adapter for some equipment) which could lead someone to think this is necessary for AirPlay 2 targets. It might be good to add a sentence to one of the first few paragraphs of the article to explain that. In these cases, client mode would likely fix the issue as you mentioned. You are right that if a person tries to extend the network of another router, it sometimes just doesn't work reliably.

If the Express is connected to the other router via Ethernet back-haul it should also work fine. Looking at eBay already, there are a lot of people looking to get the Express all of a sudden. But, it works better with other manufacturer's routers if you do so. As-is on an AirPort-centric network, it works fine. Just keep in mind that it is not necessary to set up an AirPort Express in client mode to use it as an AiprPlay target (and by extention, any seperately sound system that is connected via audio in).
